Resetting a Technician Password
Only a technician who is logged into the Technician Client can reset another technician's Track-It! password. In some cases, no technician can remember any of the technician passwords and all are thus locked out. There is a workaround to this situation.
Technician data, including the passwords, are stored in the STAF table in the Track-It! database. The PASSWORD column is encrypted, so you can't simply enter a word and thus reset the password.
The workaround consists of nulling the password in the database so the user can log in without a password.
Launch Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
Connect to your SQL Server.
Open a new query. Ensure that your Track-It! database is selected in the Available Databases menu. Enter the following:
SELECT NAME, PASSWORD
Execute the query. This will show you all the technician user names and their encrypted passwords, if any. Note the name of the technician who needs their password reset. Enter this query, substituting the user name for NAME :
SET PASSWORD = NULL
WHERE NAME = 'NAME'
Execute the query.
Have the user log in without a password and immediately change their password.
